The problem i have with the cable is that it doesn’t easily slip on and off the connection with the iphone.

I’m also afraid that it will damage the iphone connection.

Product doesn’t work – tried plugging my and my wife’s iPods into multiple computers and they weren’t recognized on any. So inexpensive that I can’t be bothered to return it, but beware.

I just received my shipment on these cables. Bottom line: I’m thrilled. I own an iPhone 3GS and these cables appear to both charge and sync without any problem. Before ordering, I read a large number of the reviews on both this cable offering and others on Amazon. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that it was purely a crap shoot and you just have to take your chances. The cable at the AT&T store is $25 (plus the gov’t rippoff fee we refer to as a “tax”), so I was certainly willing to give it a try even if it turned out they were all completely worthless. I ordered 3 cables figuring that if they were junk, maybe one of them would work and if they turned out to be decent, then I would have what I wanted.

I should note that the cables I received look exactly like the 2nd and 3rd photos from the left as shown in the listing – assuming it remains static. These 2 photos appear to be the same image. Hopefully, you will now know which photos I mean. Note that the first photo shown has different connectors and is misleading. As others have pointed out, the attaching end of the cable, which plugs into the iPhone/iPod has square corners, not round. I don’t have a case which requires a round connector so it is irrelevant to me, but others may want to know that it is a different shape than the OEM cable. Be sure your case will accept this shape or be prepared to remove the case to charge/sync the device with this cable.

    The Good

First, the cables I received are 6′ in length. That’s twice the length of the OEM cable that came with my iPhone. This was a pleasant surprise because now I don’t have to order the other cable I was looking at specifically because of it’s length. Second, the quality of the material and the design of the unit appears superior to the original cable that Apple provided. My original cable, pulled apart at the phone end where the diameter of the cable increases to absorb the stress. Unfortunately, it does this abruptly and thus the weak point is at the juncture where the cable size increases. This is exactly where mine came apart. This new cable appears to be made of material equally flexible to the orginal, but heavier. It is somewhat larger in diameter. Moreover, both ends of the cable are protected from stress pulls on the attachment by a slotted rubber piece designed to absorb stress on the attachment (see the photos). This should not come apart the way the original cable did. As noted by others, this cable does have locking prongs that connect to and hold it into the phone. This is a double edged sword -> It makes for a more secure connection, but as some reviews have noted, if they fail, the cable could get stuck in the phone…. I’ve activated the releases a number of times on each of the three cables I received and mine appear to function fine without any binding, etc. I guess time will tell if they hold up.

    The Bad

There’s only one thing I can come up with so far: It’s got a sticker that says “made in China”. That alone is my sole bone of contention. I tire of China’s poor quality standards and don’t like to support manufacturers that produce unreliable stuff – regardless of price. I wish it said India or Taiwan or any place BUT China….

    The Unknown

The real question here is if everyone is actually getting the same cables….? It is common with overseas suppliers to ship one manufacturer’s product one day and then anothers on a second day. Quality Assurance is not key in these overseas operations, so this very well may be the reason why one person rates “This” cable a 5 star and another reviewer rates it a 1 star. Mine turned out to be great cables…..or so they look and function at this point.

One last item I would point out, is that I just received these cables TODAY, so I can not speak for the durability of the cable in the long run. As I noted above, the cable appears to be made to a higher standard than the original OEM cable provided by Apple, but since I can’t see the inside, I can’t speak for the wire guage, material or anything else about it. Perhaps all 3 of mine will fail in the first week of ownership…? Or maybe they will go for years. On the surface, the material and design appears superior to the OEM cable, but only time will tell.

Keep in mind that you’re taking a chance. And heck, they only cost $2 each including shipping, so what do you have to loose?!

Connector doesn’t slide into the bottom of the iphone as smoothly as Apple’s own charger, but it does go in and gets the job done. It would be convenient for it to be slightly longer, but for two bucks it’s a great value, esp. since the ends of my Apple charger tend to break after a few months of traveling, etc.

It a nice cord for a nice price. It is soft which is good unlike most other plastic cords which is stiff.

    It works with my 3GS.
